This lesson plan is for a 3rd grade Library Skills class. This lesson uses the Turning Point Anywhere software which allows students to independently submit answers using "clickers". In this lesson, the class was reviewing how to read a Call Number and determine which section of the library the book is located. This assessment also determined if students could correctly identify the correct order books are shelved. Each student was assigned a clicker number, and I could then individually determine which students needed additional support in each area. The clickers also allow each student to participate without the fear that they may share an incorrect answer.

I chose to use the clickers for this lesson because we were at the end of a unit and I needed to determine if my students were ready to move on. Unfortunately, with a 30 minute lesson, I was having difficulty determining this. Additionally, some students do not feel comfortable sharing answers orally for fear they will be incorrect. I quickly learned that students are very motivated by the use of technology, and therefore I chose to use the clickers for this lesson. Each student was able to participate in each question, without the fear of embarrassment if their answer was incorrect. From a teacher's perspective, the clickers were a great tool because I could see how the class did as a whole, or see results from individual students.
